Norway - Strike at oilfield averted after agreement with union - February 29, 2024

Negotiations successfully averted the shutdown of the Ekofisk oilfield, securing the flow of energy resources. The potential shutdown of oil and gas production has been successfully averted, marking a significant victory for labour rights. This resolution came to light after the union IE&FLT announced the cancellation of a planned strike by 75 workers, initially set to begin on 29 February. The strike aimed to address grievances against the employment practices of SLB UK, an oil services group, specifically concerning the use of non-union labour. The heart of the conflict revolved around the demands of nine workers, employed by a foreign company, for Norwegian wages and working conditions while stationed on the Norwegian continental shelf.
