Netherlands - Strikes result in agreement for rail maintenance workers - November 30, 2024

Railway maintenance company ProRail has reached an agreement with the rail unions about a new pay and conditions agreement, but the details have not yet been made public. The breakthrough comes after five days of strike action across the country. The unions had called for pay rises varying from 8% to 13%, demands which ProRail had described as “unrealistic”. Earlier this month, the union called on its train traffic control workers to walk off the job in a series of six regional strikes. While the first action affected mainly freight trains on, the other five largely affected passenger trains operating during the morning rush hours. After these warning strikes and lengthy negotiations, the trade unions FNV, CNV and VHS and ProRail reached a joint and supported result for the collective agreement on 29 November. The unions will present the negotiation results to their members in the first week of December.
