Netherlands - New collective agreement for universities - August 31, 2024

Employees of universities will receive a 3.7% pay increase and a one-off payment of € 300 in September. In January 2025, an additional 1% salary will be added. This is the result of negotiations between the FNV trade union and the employers’ association of Dutch universities, UNL. The Labour Inspectorate recently raised the alarm bell about the sky-high workload at universities. There are now agreements to tackle that workload. In the new collective agreement, the youth wage will be abolished as of July 1, 2024. This means that employees always receive an adult wage, and young people therefore immediately benefit considerably. More than 66,000 people work at the 15 Dutch universities. If the union members agree, the new collective agreement for universities will run from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.
