The Latvian Education and Science Workers' Union (LIZDA) is ready to agree to a lower wage increase than the 8.5% stipulated by law, on the condition that negotiations on the compensation of the remaining part and further regulation of the wage increase will continue. One of the solutions proposed by the teachers is to ensure the remaining increase from next September. On 25 September, LIZDA and the Ministry of Education and Science agreed to meet again on 2 October and continue discussions on the increase in teachers' salaries in coming years. The meeting of 25 September was sparked by prolonged uncertainty about what will happen to promised teacher pay rises in 2025. According to the law, the salary increase schedule for teachers stipulates that the salary should increase by 8.5% next year.
