According to the trade union CGIL, some 5.7 million Italians earn less than € 11,000 gross a year. The average yearly national household gross income in Italy was € 31,500 in 2022, which is far below Germany (€ 45,500) and France (€ 41,700). According to the CGIL report, reasons for Italy's low wages include a high rate of involuntary part time work (57.9%), the highest rate in the eurozone, and a high rate of temporary jobs (16.9%), with "strong working discontinuity".
