Healthcare unions are intensifying their protests against the Health Service Executive's (HSE) pay and staffing strategies. The unions SIPTU, FORSA, and INMO have called for widespread protests, highlighting the urgent need for better pay and increased staffing levels across the healthcare sector. A recent survey conducted by one of the unions revealed that 88% of workers reported vacancies in their departments, underscoring the severity of the staffing crisis. The unions emphasize the adverse impact on healthcare services due to the shortage of workers, which, they claim, puts patient care at risk. They are calling for immediate intervention by the government to address the pay and staffing issues that have been ongoing for years. Protests organized by the unions have already taken place in various locations, with union leaders signalling more actions to come if the government and HSE do not engage in meaningful negotiations to resolve these concerns.
