The Central Board of the Icelandic Confederation of Labour (ASÍ) expresses serious concern about the Government's plans to reduce the pension rights of working and low-wage workers. The union considers the Government's actions in this matter completely unacceptable. In the bill for the 2025 budget, it is proposed to cut the equalization contribution for disability payments of pension funds by two-thirds, and it is planned to cancel the contribution completely the following year. The impact of this falls most heavily on the funds of working and low-wage workers within ASÍ, who will continue to cover their share of disability insurance. Calculations show that with this move, the central government will reduce pension rights in workers' funds to below 4%.
