Iceland - Ongoing teachers’ strike - November 30, 2024

Thousands of families are affected by the ongoing teachers’ strike as union leader warns that the strike may continue past New Year’s Eve. Negotiations have stalled and further strike action is around the corner. The Icelandic Teachers’ Union began its strike action after many unsuccessful rounds of wage bargaining with municipalities and the state. Teachers are taking turns striking and this round of action has so far affected some 1,200 elementary school children, even more preschoolers, and around 800 upper secondary school students.
