Iceland - Artists’ salary fund increased - June 30, 2024

Parliament has approved both increasing and expanding the Artists’ Salary Fund, adding changes to a law that has not been updated in 15 years. Individuals working in the arts – whether they be visual artists, writers, musicians, stage performers and the like – can apply to the fund to receive Government funding, which is then paid out on a monthly basis. The Minister of Education and Culture reports that these monthly salaries will increase from 1,600 to 2,490 over the next four years. Furthermore, two new funds have been created: a screenwriter’s fund and a fund specifically for artists aged 67 and older.
