Hungary - Expectation of strong wage increase - October 31, 2024

In a radio interview, the Prime Minister announced a New Deal to boost the national economy. He noted that negotiations with trade unions are progressing well, expressing optimism that an agreement will be reached on both the minimum wage and the level of wage increases. He added that the goal of increasing the average salary from HUF 600,000 (€ 1,469) to HUF 1 million (€ 2,449) is not unrealistic and that the minimum wage could reach € 1,000 in the coming two or three years. Additionally, he announced that a new ‘work loan’ would be introduced for vocational students, complementing the existing student loan system.
