From 1 July, many employees might find themselves working one more day. The maximum working week will be extend to six days, for a total of 48 hours, but with a 40% salary increase for the additional day and 115% if it is a public holiday. No overtime exceeding eight hours per day will be permitted. The new law, approved in September and ready to come into force, was introduced to respond to the labour shortage, especially seasonal labour. According to the legislation, some industrial and manufacturing production facilities, as well as businesses offering 24/24 services, can extend the working week beyond the usual five days. The new law does not apply to catering and food workers, where the 40-hour week had already been abolished.
