The economy is growing enough again to allow raising the minimum wage to € 830 as well as tax benefits for businesses to help new parents and struggling young households; and most pensioners will see increases. The Labour and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameus announced the measures at a news conference. She also announced a number of measures to stimulate employment. These include a 1% reduction in social security contributions from 1 January next year (0.5% on employee contributions and 0.5% on employer contributions), plus a further 0.5% reduction in 2027. Tax exemptions will also be applied to companies that support new parents. These will cover non-wage benefits of up to € 5,000 granted to employees after the birth of a child. A reduction in the new parent’s salary will be prohibited during the benefit period.
