After massive warning strikes and determined efforts by union IG Metall, employers in the metal and electrical industry have given in. IG Metall reached a pilot agreement for the collective bargaining areas North and Bavaria. After a one-off payment of € 600 until 1 February 2025, monthly wages will increase by 2.0% from April 2025 and by a further 3.1% from 1 April 2026. In addition, IG Metall pushed through a "social component" by increasing the annual "collective agreement supplementary pay" from the current 18.5% of the basic wage in the respective collective agreement area (around € 630) by 8 percentage points to 26.5% (around € 900) from February 2026. Employees in lower pay groups will benefit more from this. For the 230,000 trainees pay will increase by € 140 from 1 January 2025. The agreement will be extended to all 3.9 million employees nationwide.
