Germany - Nationwide agreement in retail - August 31, 2024

After more than a year of tough negotiations, the last collective bargaining area in retail has now also reached a collective agreement. On July 4, 2024, the ver.di union in Berlin and Brandenburg reached an agreement for retail employees. Overall, full-time sales staff in all collective bargaining areas will receive around € 400 more. This includes a 40% increase in the collectively agreed pension provision from € 300 to € 420 per year. Over the entire term of 3 years, the increase, including the improved collectively agreed pension provision, is around 14%. With the collective bargaining agreement in Berlin and Brandenburg, one of the longest and toughest collective bargaining rounds in retail has come to an end. Negotiations are still ongoing in several federal states for employees in wholesale and foreign trade, who make up a third of the approximately 5 million employees in trade.
