Germany - Mandatory extension of agreement for ground handling services - November 30, 2024

With immediate effect, the collective agreements for ground handling services at commercial airports apply to all companies in the industry. The collective bargaining committee of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has decided that the collective agreements will be legally extended. This means that the working conditions and wages from the collective agreement are binding for all employees in this industry. This is a great success for the union ver.di, which pushed through the collective agreement in long negotiations with the employers' associations. The agreement, which has been in force in many companies since 1 August 2024, ensures better wages and working conditions. The minimum wage in the area of ground handling services is now € 17 per hour. The decision represents an important milestone and ends a long period of low wages and inadequate working conditions in this industry. Only smaller airports are exempt from the regulation.
