Germany - Conflict over railway collective agreement settled - December 31, 2024

In the negotiations on the railway collective agreement (ETV), the union ver.di reached an agreement in the third round of negotiations on 5 December 2024. The approximately 5,500 employees in 21 transport companies will receive up to 7.7% more pay in two steps. From 1 May 2025, the wages will be increased by € 120 euros, and from 1 November 2025 there will be a further increase of 2.8%. As early as December 2024, employees will receive an inflation compensation bonus of € 1,300. Trainees will receive a bonus of € 650 and increases of € 50 from May 2025 and € 40 from November 2025. The collective agreement runs until 30 August 2026. The collective bargaining round included several warning strikes, some lasting several days. The ETV collective bargaining area includes 21 transport companies in 6 federal states. The total of around 5,500 employees work in rail freight transport, local rail passenger transport and public transport by bus.
