Finland - Unions oppose new wage-setting model - October 31, 2024

The largest trade unions, including SAK, Jyty and JHL, have united in opposition to the Government’s proposed export-driven wage model. This model would link wage increases in various sectors to those in export industries, which they argue would compromise the freedom of contract for unions and weaken the national mediator’s independence. Trade unions assert that imposing a universal wage model overlooks sector-specific challenges in fields such as healthcare, social services, and early childhood education — many of which are female-dominated and have longstanding wage disparities.
