ETUC’s Wage up campaign highlights the urgency of higher minimum wages, pointing to stark gaps in wage adequacy and collective bargaining. Only two countries currently meet minimum wage adequacy standards, defined by 60% of gross median wage and 50% of gross average wage. Additionally, only eight countries have achieved 80% collective bargaining coverage, while in-work poverty rates remain high in several states. Disparities in pay persist, with women, often in lower-paid jobs, still earning up to 21% less than men. Furthermore, the majority of EU countries have yet to transpose the minimum wage directive.
