Czechia - Strike alert by public service unions - August 31, 2024

Public service unions across various sectors have declared a strike alert in response to stalled negotiations over salary increases for 2024 and 2025. This decision follows a series of unmet demands and unfulfilled commitments from Government officials. Earlier this year trade unions including those representing state institutions, healthcare workers, educators, and cultural professionals, sought substantial salary adjustments. Initially, the unions requested a 15% increase in salary rates to take effect from September 1, 2024. This demand was later moderated to a 10% increase in an attempt to reach a compromise. Despite these negotiations, the response from the Government has been inadequate.
