Croatia - Unions unhappy with salary raise of state officials - August 31, 2024

The Government adopted a decision to raise the base salaries of state officials so as to harmonize them with the salaries of civil servants. This will apply to 270 state officials, whose net salaries will increase by between 60 to 70%. While the unions say that the average worker cannot be happy with the decision, employers feel that it could lead to increased competitiveness. The president of the Socio-Economic Council and former union leader said that people who expect their standard of living to improve are gazing on the politicians, who have just raised their own salaries very generously in one foul swoop.
