Croatia - Construction workers return home - August 31, 2024

Germany is increasingly losing its allure as the 'promised land' for Croatian construction workers, according to unions and employers. This is because wages in Croatia have significantly risen after the signing of a new collective agreement, while the cost of living in Germany is rising. According to the Croatian Construction Workers' Union, unions and employers in construction cooperate well, and a new collective agreement was concluded in June, further raising construction workers' wages. The constant wage growth in construction, driven by a labour shortage, has led to good earnings, making it increasingly worthwhile for workers to stay home.
