On 1 October, a national strike of service sector workers at airports began, including staff from security agencies, cleaning companies, restaurants and hotels, who demand better working conditions and higher wages. A large number of security personnel at the largest airports, Zaventem and Charleroi, took part in the strike. As a result of the strike, flight capacity was reduced and all departing flights were cancelled due to insufficient number of security personnel. The largest trade union, ACV-CSC (Confederation of Christian Trade Unions), attributes the strike to protests against "high workload" and "poor working conditions" at airports.
