Belgium - Public service unions mobilise against cuts - November 30, 2024

Public service unions are ramping up their opposition to ongoing budget cuts and staff reductions, with workers in Wallonia planning a joint strike and rally. These actions are set to draw attention to critical issues facing public services in the region. Public service workers are opposing budget cuts, the erosion of civil servant status, delayed or cancelled replacement of retiring staff, and the non-renewal of fixed-term contracts. These issues, shared across both regional and community administrations, stem from governance challenges exacerbated by overlapping ministerial responsibilities.
