Austria - Childcare workers protest for a nationwide framework law - October 31, 2024

Over 4,000 workers from private kindergartens and day-care centres protested demanding better working conditions and a nationwide uniform framework law in the childcare sector. Organized by unions GPA and Vida the protest aimed to send a strong message to future government officials. Key demands included reducing the number of children per group, improving the staff-child ratio, and ensuring sufficient preparation and follow-up time. Protesters also called for uniform training for assistants to address staff shortages and improve the quality of care. The protest emphasized the importance of investing in childcare to lay a strong foundation for children's development.
