Turkey - Journalists to go on strike if demands are not met - April 30, 2023

Journalists at Reuters Turkish news agencies have decided to go on strike on 10 May because the collective bargaining negotiations ended in a deadlock. Despite many rounds of negotiations, the company management has refused to offer more than a 25% pay rise, even though the official inflation figure for March stood at 50.51% and an independent research group puts inflation at 112.51%. In order to put pressure on the company, journalists from the news agency in Turkey and members of the Turkish Journalists Union (TGS) gathered in front of Reuters’ Turkey office in İstanbul at the end of April.
