Switzerland - Trade union steps up actions on pay of public service workers - November 30, 2023

Public service workers in Bern had a pay increase of only 0.5% in 2023 and have been offered 2% for 2024, ignoring union protests and a petition with 16,195 signatures. In Dübendorf, over 70% of the permanent workforce signed a petition calling for a fair and transparent wage system and cost-of-living adjustment for 2023. The public sector union vpod in Fribourg has organised a petition and protest action for 14 November calling for a wage increase of 4%, having been offered only 2.3% by the local administration. On the same day staff in Geneva took strike action over pay and in Jura the union mobilised against the Canton’s austerity proposals.
