Slovakia - Wage growth lags behind prices - February 28, 2023

Wage growth in 2022 significantly lagged behind price growth. Only wages in accommodation resisted inflation. On average, nominal monthly wages for 2022 increased year-on-year in all monitored sectors. It rose the most in sectors with lower wages, namely in accommodation by more than 20% (to €951), in construction by 11.7% (to €914) and in retail trade by almost 11% (to €972). However, due to high inflation during 2022 real wages dropped in 9 out of 10 monitored industries. Only wages in accommodation improved year-on-year by 6.7%.
