Lithuania - Nominal earnings up 13.3% annually, but real earnings drop - May 31, 2023

In the first quarter of 2023, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy totalled € 1,959.9 and, compared to the last quarter of 2022, increased by 3.1%. In the public sector, average gross monthly earnings totalled € 1,996.6 (a decrease by 1.7%), in the private sector € 1,944.7 (an increase by 5.3%). Real earnings increased by 1.2%: in the public sector they decreased by 3.2%, in the private sector they increased by 3.1%. Compared to the first quarter of 2022, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy increased by 13.3%: in the public sector by 12.6%, in the private sector by 13.6%. However, real earnings in the whole economy decreased by 5.4%: in the public sector they dropped by 5.8%, in the private sector by 5.2%.
