Latvia - Nominal wages increase by 7.5%, but real wages fall by 8.7% - March 31, 2023

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB) show that in 2022 the average gross wages and salaries for full-time work amounted to € 1,373. Compared to 2021, the average monthly earnings grew by € 95 or 7.5% and hourly earnings before taxes by 6.6 % (from € 8.54 to € 9.10). The average net wages rose by 7.1% over the year. However, considering the rise in consumer prices, real net earnings fell by 8.7%, pointing to a sharp decline in the purchasing power of salaried workers.
