Iceland - New measures to attract foreign workers - March 31, 2023

The Government announced several changes to the country’s residency and employment regulations. The stated goal is to attract workers from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and retain international students at the end of their studies. In a bid to address the skills shortage, the Prime Minister, the Minister for Universities, Industry and Innovation and the Minister for Social Affairs and the Labour Market came together during a press conference and presented a new work permit system for foreigners.
