Belgium - Union demands respect for social dialogue - February 28, 2023

Following a meeting of the federal committee of the socialist trade union ABVV/FGTB emphasizes the importance of interprofessional social dialogue. Once again, it appears that the Law of 1996 – the wage moderation law – blocks all wage negotiations for the current and next 2 years. After all, the wage moderation law does not allow a margin, this time it is literally 0%. However, the union considers it important that employment conditions other than wages are negotiated in an interprofessional framework. This allows solidarity agreements for all employees which the union considers the strength of the Belgian social dialogue model.
