Netherlands - Rail strike ends with 8% wage deal - September 30, 2022

After several weeks of regional train strikes across the country, the trade unions and rail company Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) have reached an agreement. As part of the new collective agreement, salaries will increase by 9.25% and fulltime workers will receive an additional bonus of up to €1.000 in both 2022 and 2023. Changes have also been made to ensure a better work-life balance, and workers will now benefit from higher pension contributions and new rules for guaranteed temporary leave. In addition to these changes, NS has committed to further agreements should inflation in 2022 and 2023 be higher than the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB) estimates.
