EU Sources - Support for strong European minimum wage directive - June 30, 2022

Following an agreement between EU institutions in the trilogue the draft directive on minimum wages and collective bargaining was approved by ambassadors of EU member states at the Council of the EU’s Coreper (Committee of Permanent Representatives). The trilogue result includes the following key measures: a framework for the setting of adequate statutory minimum wages which defines a set of criteria to be taken into account by Member States when setting statutory minimum wages; and an obligation for Member States to promote collective bargaining and trade union rights for those Member States with a collective bargaining coverage below 80% by establishing an action plan with concrete measures that aim to support collective bargaining.
