The trade union FOA has sent a wake-up call to politicians about the need to address pay in the welfare sector. The union brought together 1,200 of its shop stewards from across the country in a two-day conference to discuss pay in health, social care and other services. The union warns of increasing discontent among workers if action is not taken. It is already extremely difficult to recruit workers to the sector and the union argues strongly that improvements to pay and working conditions are an important part of the solution and this requires a real debate about the financial framework for the public sector.
