Czechia - Largest drop in real wages in three decades - June 30, 2022

According to the Czech Statistical Office (CSU), the average gross monthly full-time wage reached CZK 37,929 in the first quarter of 2022. This was an increase of 7.2% year-on-year, but due to consumer prices rising by 11.2%, real wages fell by 3.6%. Wages rose the most in the financial and insurance sector, up 15.9%, real estate activities (13.9%), and accommodation and food service (11.2%). The fall in real wages meant that Czechia was experiencing its largest decline in living standards since the country’s independence in 1993.
