Austria - Social partners influence anti-inflation package - June 30, 2022

The federal government presented an anti-inflation package that contains short-term measures to immediately help the population and long-term structural measures. Significant demands of the social partners were implemented. The pressure from the union confederation OGB and the AK (Chamber of Labour) and has paid off: According to the AK President, the package will help cushion the impact of high inflation. But what is missing are measures that have a real downward effect on prices and that would strengthen the welfare state and make it poverty-proof. Employers can pay tax-free additional wages in 2022 or 2023 due to the increased prices. These "cost-of-living premiums" are tax-free and social security-free up to a total of €3,000 in 2022 or 2023,
