Lithuania - Unemployment despite job subsidies - January 31, 2021

Although businesses have been receiving state wage subsidies to keep them from laying off workers during a nationwide lockdown, in January the unemployment rate reached a record high. Official figures from the Employment Service indicated that there were some 277,000 people out of a job on 1 January, or 16% of the workforce.
