Hungary - Union rejects 4% minimum wage hike - January 31, 2021

Union MASZSZ will reject a 4% minimum wage hike offered by employers and government representatives. Another two unions have said they would sign the agreement when it will be debated. Calculated for the whole year, the offer would constitute a 3.69% increase, but MASZSZ pointed out that surveys show that food prices go up by an average of 9.1% annually. For low-income workers, who spend most of their earnings on food, this would mean their wages wouldn’t even preserve their current value.
