Germany - Union resists thousands of planned job cuts - January 31, 2021

The Commerzbank board is having to reckon with strong resistance to its planned job cuts. Trade union Verdi wants to rule out redundancies. In Germany alone, the union fears the loss of 7,000 full-time jobs at the bank. Operational dismissals would have to be excluded according to the union. In some areas, such as IT, the bank could increase staff at the same time, so that the overall reduction could be less. So far, the board has not provided any further information.
