Germany - Agreement on East-West alignment in the metal industry - June 30, 2021

The metalworkers’ union IG Metall Berlin-Brandenburg-Saxony and the Berlin-Brandenburg (VME) and Saxony (VSME) employers' associations for the metal and electrical industry have agreed on a collective bargaining framework for aligning working conditions on East and West Germayn. According to the fagreement, workers can now negotiate a company agreement with management within the new collective bargaining framework, which clears the way for the introduction of the 35-hour week in the East German metal and electrical industry from 1 January 2022.
