Glass workers at Sisecam went on strike after wage negotiations broke down. Soon after the government decided to postpone the strike at some of the factories connected to Şişecam for 60 days … as it ‘is considered disruptive of public health and national security’. Around 6,000 workers from plants in six provinces halted production demanding decent wages and working conditions. Sisecam has offered an 11.79% increase in wages, which falls far behind the union demand for a 23.12% increase. The plants affected by the strike include Trakaya Cam factories in Thrace and Mersin provinces, Trakaya Yenisehir Cam factory in Bursa province and 3 Pasabahce factories in Kirklareli, Eskisehir and Mersin, as well as a fibreglass plant Cam Elyaf in Kocaeli.
