A lasting legacy of the COVID 19 pandemic will be the rise of the remote work. Though many companies world-over are re-instituting work-from-office, there will continue to be a large number of knowledge workers who operate from distant geographies.
With their employment, though, comes the question of fair compensation. Is it fair for companies based in high-income countries to pay workers in low-income countries lower wages than they would for local employees? Does that go against the principal of equal pay for equal work? If the company wants to pay Living Wages, what country's wage rates should they choose?
These aren't easy questions, but they are important ones. Especially as the campaign for Living Wages gains momentum, such questions need to be answered so that we can collectively create fairer workplaces for all.
In our upcoming Living Wage info session, we be tackled this topic with our in-house experts. You can access the presentation shared here, and read an interview between Paulien Osse, our Global Living Wages Lead, and Daniela Ceccon, our Director of Data, covering their thoughts on fair compensation for remote workers for digital nomads.
