Germany - Agreement in construction industry after warning strikes - May 31, 2024

In the third week of a warning strike, an agreement was reached in the wage dispute in the construction industry. As the collective bargaining parties announced, the proposed agreement includes, among other things, a three-staged wage increase over a period of three years. On 28 May, the arbitration commission of the construction workers’ union IG BAU held exploratory talks with the employers, demanding a better offer than the ruling of the arbitrator. This resulted in an agreement that will be proposed to the members. The proposal includes a wage increase on 1 May 2024, between € 260 and € 380 per month. Secondly, an increase on 1 April 2025 of 4.2% (in the West) and 5% (in the East). Uniform wages, salaries and training allowances nationwide on 1 April 2026; and a nationwide third increase of 3.9% also on 1 April 2026
