Germany - Agreement for train drivers - March 31, 2024

German Railways (Deutsche Bahn, DB) and the German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) have reached a collective agreement after five months of negotiations. The core element is an option model with which employees in shift work can decide for themselves about their weekly working hours within a corridor of 35 to 40 hours. The agreement includes a general increase in the monthly salary tables by a fixed amount of € 210 on 1 August 2024 and by a further € 210 on 1 April 2025, an increase in dynamic allowances by 4% each on 1 August 2024 and 1 April 2025, and an inflation compensation bonus of € 2,850 (part-time employees pro rata) and € 1,425 for trainees and dual students.
