Finland - Strikes and overtime ban in private healthcare - June 30, 2024

Healthcare unions SuPer, Tehy and Erto issued new strike warnings and declared an immediate ban on overtime and shift changes in the private healthcare sector. Workers are demanding better pay and conditions, as current wages in private health facilities lag significantly behind those in the public sector. Two new one-day strikes targeted imaging services and additional one-day strikes focussed on laboratory services. The unions assert that the employer's wage proposals during mediation have been insufficient, prompting these intensified actions. They highlight that the significant pay disparity between private and public healthcare workers has widened since the public sector’s pay system reform began in February. Negotiations have been ongoing since March but have yet to yield an acceptable agreement.
