Croatia - Kindergarten strike continues - June 30, 2024

Members of the Trade Union of Education, Media, and Culture (SOMK) at the public kindergarten in Biograd na Moru have entered the eighth week of a strike — a record in this sector. They demand that the local administration agrees to collective bargaining and harmonizes salaries with those in primary education. The mayor and the head of the kindergarten have repeatedly refused these demands. According to SOMK, workers have faced constant pressure and attempts to deny their right to fight for dignified wages and better working conditions throughout the strike. The kindergarten management attempted to use parents to break the strike.
