Netherlands - Strikes result in collective agreement in distribution centres - May 31, 2023

After months of negotiations and eleven days of strike, the trade union FNV has reached an agreement with supermarket group Albert Heijn for the 6,000 workers in distribution centres. Salaries will increase by 10% and the reduction of the Sunday allowance is off the table. Temporary workers will get more certainty about their schedules. The collective agreement runs for one year, until 15 April 2024. The early retirement scheme will remain intact for everyone. There will also be an end to running different services in close succession. Where temporary workers sometimes have to work a few hours later after a night shift, it has been agreed that from now on they will have to work no more than two different shifts in one week. About 1,500 employees in various distribution centres went on strike for better salaries and fair working conditions.
