Hungary - Strike results in pay deal - June 30, 2023

A strike at aluminium company Arconic-Köfém Kft., which employs around 800 workers, was called off after a wage increase was reached in an agreement signed on 12 June 2023. Based on the agreement, production workers will receive a one-off wage supplement of 340,000 forints, which will be paid with the July salary. The workers initiated an indefinite strike on 4 June 2023, because they did not accept the employer's unilateral wage increase and demanded an additional 5.5% basic wage increase. The wage subsidy means an increase of more than 5.5% compared to the previous year. In addition to the employer's previous 10.8% increase, this amounts to a significant increase.
