Hungary - Nominal earnings increase by 16% year-on-year, but real earnings fall - August 31, 2023

According to the Central Statistical Office, full-time employees’ average gross earnings in June 2023 were HUF 566,800 (€ 1,484) and average net earnings with tax benefits reached HUF 390,900 (€ 1,024).

Average gross earnings grew by 16.0%, and average net earnings were 15.9% higher than a year earlier. Average net earnings were HUF 376,900 (€ 987) without tax benefits and HUF 390,900 (€ 1,024) with tax benefits. Compared to June 2022, this was an increase of 16.0% and 15.9% respectively. Real earnings fell by 3.4%, due to a 20.1% increase in consumer prices compared to the same period last year.
