Austria - Unions demand 11.6% wage increase in metal sector - September 30, 2023

The trade unions PRO-GE and GPA launched the autumn wage round on 25 September by handing over their demands to all employers' associations in the metal industry. Wage and salary increases for around 200,000 employees are to be negotiated in the coming weeks. The inflation rate relevant to the negotiations is 9.6%. The new collective agreement will apply from 1 November 2023. In order to secure workers’ purchasing power, the union are demanding a wage increase of 11.6%. In recent months employees have suffered one of the largest real wage losses in the history of the country.
